The Protos is an electric multiple unit of the German company Fahrzeugtechnik Dessau

(FTD). The electrical system was built by Vossloh Kiepe in Dusseldorf.


General

The train is built on a modular concept. The trains have a lowered floor causing a ground

entry is present. The floor height is 810 millimeters high. The first train (prototype) left the

factory in September 2006 and was presented at the German trade fair InnoTrans 2006.

Farhrzeugtechnik Dessau has sold to date only six copies of the Protos. The production of Protos trains in 2008 outside the takeover of the plant by the Romanian Compania de Transport Bucuresti SA Feroviar (CTF) account. Connexxion is therefore the only recipient of the Protos.

Prototype

Series

Connexxion, after successful trials with the prototype FTD01, the first and only ordered five Protos trains for the Valleilijn between Amersfoort and Ede-Wageningen. The trains with the numbers 5031 t / m 5035 from September 23, 2007 were used in passenger service. Originally, all five trains per September 1, 2007 must be employed but construction was delayed. Connexxion is the first transport company in the Netherlands a vehicle equipped with a separate area for young people, aptly named Dance Valley.
